Allan Abels

Allan F. Abels, age 86 of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, July 6, 2020 at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital. He was born September 22, 1933 in Battle Creek, Michigan the son of Burdette Mike and Mary Louise (Abbott) Abels. Al enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1950 at the age of 17 and retired in 1974 as a Master Sergeant. He served in both Korea and Vietnam in the Special Forces. Following his retirement, he went to work at Union Pump and retired after more than 20 years of service. He was a past commander of V.F.W. Post 54, was a member of the Family Altar Chapel and enjoyed wedding photography. In April of 1958 Al married Annamaria (Tagger) Abels who survives. He is also survived by three children: Anita Hamilton of Florence, Alabama, James Michael Abels of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Daniela (Ron) Randall of Athens, Michigan; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Mary Lou. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the Family Altar Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. Social distancing guidelines will be followed at the church and please wear a mask into and out of the building. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. the same day at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Family Altar Chapel. Arrangements by the Richard A.
