Ann Wyson

May 20, 1952 — December 22, 2020

Battle Creek

Ann “Annie” Louise Wyson, age 68 of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully on the morning of December 22, 2020 at Bronson Hospital. Her family was with her, on their daily zoom call. Annie was born on the 20th of May 1952 in Grand Rapids, MI, the beloved daughter of Elizabeth and Edmund Wyson. She had been a Battle Creek resident since 1957. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1971 and was then employed at Jacobson’s in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo, until the stores closure in 1997. She went on to work at Sears in Battle Creek until her medical retirement in 2015. She was a natural at retail sales with a genuine, friendly and gracious manner with customers. Because she had spent so many years working with the public, there was no such thing as a “quick” trip to the store. She seemed to know everyone, and loved chatting with anyone she encountered, leading her family to nickname her “Mayor of Battle Creek.”  Annie was a long-standing member of St. Philip Catholic Church.  In spite of numerous medical problems throughout her life, she maintained a positive attitude and was always smiling. She defied the odds over and over again and was our miracle. She never saw herself as someone who was sick, but was always looking for the next adventure, shopping expedition, beach trip, card game or new recipe to try. She loved to dance and studied at the Shari Rarick School of Dance and enjoyed many years on stage during the Leila Follies. She was a proud volunteer at Bronson Hospital and loved her many hours helping others and having popcorn duty.  She was a huge Notre Dame Football fan and everyone knew not to call her during a game.  But most of all, Annie loved her family, especially her many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She always wanted to be the first to hear news of their births, first steps, college acceptances, engagements, etc. They were all her kids and she spoiled them. Weeks with all of them at Lake Michigan were her favorite vacations; when she couldn’t be with them, they had weekly (sometimes nightly) FaceTime conversations. Annie was recently predeceased by her father Edmund Wyson and she is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Wyson of Battle Creek; her sisters, Mary (Kevin) Malone of Portland, OR, Karen (James) Potter of Concord, NH and Kathleen (David) Wartner of Elmhurst, IL and a brother, Edmund (Julia) Wyson of Los Angeles, CA. Annie was a very special aunt to Matthew, John and Michael Malone, Meghan Malone Farragher, Charles Wyson, Jack, Elizabeth, Katherine and Sarah Potter and Katlyn, Lauren and Emily Wartner along with being a great-aunt of seven, ages 1-8.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 29, 2020, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church. Services will be live streamed on St. Philip Roman Catholic Church Battle Creek, MI FB page. A private interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. No reception at this time. Please remember to protect yourselves and Annie’s family by social distancing and wearing a mask. Don’t forget to wear red, Annie’s favorite color.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association, Bronson Health Foundation or Mayo Clinic.  www.henryfuneralhome.org
