Charles Aitken

Battle Creek

Charles V. Aitken, age 87, of Battle Creek, went to be with the Lord on July 26, 2021, at Reflections Memory Care.  He was born on March 8, 1934, in Goshen, Indiana, the son of William and Mary (McDermott) Aitken.  Charles graduated from Elkhart High School before moving to Battle Creek.  He was employed  at General Motors for twenty years, retiring at the age of 53.  After his retirement, Charles began working for his wife at the Town and Country Gift Shoppe in Marshall of which they owned for 30 years.  Charles was an excellent handyman; he remodeled the second floor of their gift shop to make it their home.  Charles was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marshall, Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, and was on the Marshall Downtown Development Committee.  He was an avid fisherman, golfer, and gardner in which he took great pride in his yard and gardens.  Charles true passion was spending time with his beloved family.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother; William “Bill” Aitken.  He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Sue Aitken of Battle Creek, stepsons; Robert (Cheryl) Prell and John Prell, both of Battle Creek, grandchildren; Robert Prell, Rachel Prell, Bethanie (Seth) Grinage, Sarah Prell and Trumen Prell.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2021, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 30, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Fr. Max Nightingale, celebrant.  Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  Memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
