Connie M. Jerrell, age 83, of Battle Creek, passed away on November 23, 2022. She was born on November 4, 1939 in Charlotte, Michigan, the daughter of Philip (Sam) and Maxine (Velliquette) Mains. Connie moved from Olivet, Michigan to Battle Creek as a young child. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1957 and married her high school sweetheart James F. Jerrell on March 4, 1958 in Battle Creek. She shared a lifetime of love and adventure with Jim, doting on her large and growing family and spending time with their close friends who became part of the family as well. Connie enjoyed traveling, camping, thrifting, and having fun at their place Up North in Irons, Michigan with friends and family. She loved to read and re-read the “Outlander” novels and enjoyed watching the show along with other Medieval-era shows. After she retired, she and her friend Marilynn Ferguson took beginning quilting classes, which ignited a love of the art form. She won several ribbons for her beautiful work and enjoyed making treasured quilts and table runners for friends and family and donating many quilts to hospice and veterans groups. She was a member of the American Legion Post 298 Auxiliary, Sew and Sews, Bakers Gang, Cal-Co. Quilt Guild, and Quilters Sharing Quilts (Formerly Hospice Quilts.) Prior to her retirement in 1999, Connie worked as a secretary for the Civil Defense Department-Battle Creek Federal Center, as an executive secretary at Kellogg Arena, and as the secretary for the City of Battle Creek Engineering Department. Connie was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Jim Jerrell; her daughters Julie Pena of Battle Creek, Jane (Bill) Angus of Fenton, MI, Jenni (John) Gray of Battle Creek; brother Steve (Lorraine) Mains of Battle Creek; nephew Joe Mains of Battle Creek; grandchildren Laura (Eric) Hall, Sarah (Noah Roszczipka) Angus, Jason Pena, Steve (Rachael Wilding) Angus, Jay Angus, Kate Gray, Johnny (Ashlynn) Gray; great granddaughter Saela Gray, and a great grandson due in May.
