Evelyn Westra

Evelyn E.(Purdham) Westra, age 71, of Battle Creek, passed away on October 1, 2020.  She was born on July 20, 1949 in San Francisco, California, the daughter of Dr. Glenn and Jean (Vanarsdale) Purdham.  Evelyn came to Battle Creek as an infant.  She attended Battle Creek Academy and Graduated from Georgia Cumberland Academy.  She received her master’s degree in education from Western Michigan University.  Evelyn was employed as a mail clerk for thirty-one years at the Kalamazoo Post Office, retiring in 2004.  She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Evelyn loved the lakes and had a true passion for swimming.  She  enjoyed traveling and collecting and searching out lighthouses.  Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and a brother; James Purdham.  Surviving are a son; Jim (Gina) Westra of Battle Creek, daughter; Paula Purdham of Richland, grandchildren; Charlene, Cierra, Erica, Neal, Harley, five great grandchildren, partner; Ron Manock of Battle Creek, and lifelong friends ; Linda Moore and Kathy Havens, both of Battle Creek.  In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place.  Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2020 at the Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh Day Adventist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.  Condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
