Kayla Vandeburg

September 13, 1990 — January 5, 2023

Emmett Twp.

Kayla Sue Vandeburg, 32, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away after succumbing to a number of health issues that plagued her for years, surrounded by family and in the arms of the man that loved her on January 5 th, 2023, at Bronson Battle Creek. She was born September 13, 1990, to her mother Julie, who tragically passed away in 2010. She was adopted early in life by her grandparents Kay and Donald, who fostered her love of dance and took care of her until she was an adult. She had very close relationships with her Uncle Jerry and Aunt Cindy, her Grandpa Jerry, and her Grandma Kay, who all but Aunt Cindy, have subsequently passed over the last few years. A graduate of Lakeview High School and The Salon Professional Academy, Kayla did hair for a number of years at various salons.

Kayla was an artist who found herself painting, creating resin art, and sculpting clay during the final few years of her life. She had a tremendous heart that she employed to love her family, friends, her cat, Tyr, and her 3 dogs, especially Amelia. Her hobbies included reading books, discovering new music, watching her trashy reality TV shows, going to concerts, astrology and Tarot, silly conspiracy theories, her garden, and collecting wigs and shoes.

She had a spellbinding presence and would be able to bewitch you with her smile and obnoxiously contagious laugh. Though she dealt with a near crippling social anxiety, she loved being around the people she cared for. But she was at her best when she was dressed in her most comfortable clothes while stretched out on the couch, cuddling her dogs and watching her favorite shows. She absolutely loved Date Night, where she’d pick out a wig and dress herself around that personality for the evening. Most of all, she was loved truly, madly, and deeply loved by the people she graced with her charms.

Thank you to the extreme generosity of her friends and family, enough money was donated to bury Kayla with her mother, something she wished for long before her passing.

On Saturday, February 25 th , we will be hosting a Celebration of Life in honor of this angel. It will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the clubhouse at 205 Ashton Lake, which is off Riverside Drive in Battle Creek. There will be food and sodas/water provided.
