Larry Williams

Larry “Hope” Wayne Williams, age 67, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence in Battle Creek, MI. He was born January 24, 1952 in Evansville, Indiana.  Larry was the son of Tommie and Lorraine Williams. He was a 1970 graduate of Evansville Central High School. In high school and while he attended Kentucky State and Lee University, he became the all American of sports.  He was known as a teammate, fierce competitor, our running back, my point guard and just an outstanding black man ~ Gregory Van Leer Sr. He worked at the Union Pump for many years, which led to his retirement. After retirement, he pursued his passion as a photographer taking pictures at sporting events, proms, weddings, anniversaries and all kind of events.  When time and weather permitted, he and his special brother Jeff would go sit on the fishing banks. He was preceded in death by his sister Wilma Williams, parents Tommie and Lorraine Williams, and sister Patricia Williams.  He leaves to cherish his best friend and wife, Sandra Chapman-Williams; Daughters, Sasha Williams, and Rubontay Buckner both of Battle Creek, MI.  Sons, Brian Williams of Birmingham, AL and Darnell White of Maryland.  Grandchildren:  Reyce White, Juliana-McNutt White, Elijah White, Danae White, Zarrieya Johnson, Zaharion Johnson, and Zandalen Johnson; two sisters, Doris (William) Rogers of Evansville, IN, and Lauris McGee of Battle Creek, MI; Brother-In-Law Willie (Edgrekia) Chapman of Battle Creek, MI; special brother Jeff Smith of Battle Creek, MI; and lifelong friend David Ussery from Evansville, IN and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was known and will be remembered as Bae, Dad, Pops Papa Larry, Uncle Larry, the “Movie Man”, “Picture Man” and “Hope” or “Hoper” to many. Funeral Services will be held 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Masterpiece Creation Church of God in Christ, 619 North Washington Street, Battle Creek, Michigan.
