Anna Rae Waltman

Anna Rae Waltman, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026.

Anna Rae, born in Battle Creek in 1938, was deeply proud of her family’s roots in Putnam County, Tennessee, and her childhood memories were rich with family traditions that shaped the rest of her life. She grew up with immense pride in her family, especially her brothers, Aaron, Paul, and David, who honorably served in the military. She also shared an exceptionally close and special bond with her sisters, Billie and Glenna, a sisterhood she treasured always. In 1958, she married Richard A. Waltman, with whom she shared 25 years of marriage and raised their five children before divorcing in 1983.

A 1956 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School, Anna Rae was a dedicated administrative assistant for the Department of Defense at the Federal Center, retiring after 25 years of faithful service. Deeply involved in her community, she gave her time generously to the Lakeview PTA, the Booster Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Lakeview Baptist Church. Her favorite hobbies brought her immense joy, whether she was reading, sitting peacefully on the porch, traveling with her grandchildren, or knitting warm hats for the Haven of Rest in Battle Creek. Above all, her life was centered around her deep devotion to her family.

She is survived by her loving sister, Glenna (Bob-deceased) Bateson of Battle Creek.

Anna Rae is also survived by her children: Tamera Waltman (Jon Rand) of Ann Arbor; Richard Waltman (Krystyna Malec) of Cleveland, OH; Brian Waltman (Traci) of Battle Creek; Craig Waltman (Merrilee) of Clarksville, TN; and Scott Waltman (Sharon) of Battle Creek. She is the cherished grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Emma Rand (David Krass), James W. Rand, Jameson (Monique) Waltman, Sara (Pete) Scott, Brian Waltman, Spencer Waltman, Connor Waltman, Kiley (Rick) Scott, Allena Waltman, and Adam (Emily) Waltman. She also leaves behind six beloved great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews who brought her great happiness.

She was preceded in death by her parents Hardy and Ora Beulah Mae (Verble) Stout. Also, her beloved brothers and their spouses, Aaron and Louise Stout, Paul and Betty Stout, and David and Deena Stout; her sister, Billie Mae and Bob Ickes; and her grandson, Alec Waltman.
