Arlene Ann Bernard, 98, of Battle Creek passed away on September 6, 2026. She was born on March 25, 1928, in Battle Creek, she lived a long life marked by devotion to her family, steady work, and faithful service to her church community.
A 1945 graduate of St. Philip High School, Arlene began building a life rooted in commitment and perseverance. On March 23, 1947, she married her husband, Keith E. Bernard Jr., beginning a marriage that remained an important part of her story. Over the years, she worked from 1955 to 1975 at General Dynamic Convair in San Diego, California. Later, from 1985 to 1990, she worked as a cataloger at the Federal Center in Battle Creek.
Arlene was also deeply involved in her church life. She was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church and the Women’s League, and she gave her time as a bingo assistant at church. She especially loved working in the church kitchen, where her willingness to help and serve reflected her generous spirit.
Family was at the heart of Arlene’s life. She is survived by her daughters, Peggy (Mark) Palmer of Alpine California, Karen (Gene) Holley of Battle Creek, Diane (John) Palmer of Canyon Lake California, and Becky (Greg) Bernard-McDonald of Battle Creek; her step-son, Larry Bernard of Sun City California; her step-daughter, Judy Williams; and her sisters, Marcia Sosinski and Sandra Summers of Battle Creek, Several Nieces and Nephews, 9 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Stasio; her husband, Keith Bernard Jr.; her father, Lawrence O’Connell; and her mother, Genevieve Fredenburg. May her memory remain a blessing to all who knew and loved her.
Visitation will be held on September 9, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, 703 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015, followed by the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass will be celebrated on September 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip Catholic Church, 30 E. Van Buren St., Battle Creek, MI 49017.
