Boyd Mack Crannell, 83, of Battle Creek, passed away on March 2, 2023. He passed peacefully with his loving wife, Eva Crannell, by his side.  Boyd was born and raised in Olivet, Michigan. He was the only child of Mack and Edith Crannell. 

Boyd entered the Navy at the age of 17. He served in the Navy for 16 years, both active and Naval Reserves. He took great pride knowing he served his country in such an honorable way. He spent a large portion of his Naval career on the USS Compton DD705 as a signalman. He made countless lifelong friendships in the Navy, and attended as many Naval reunions as possible. He considered his time in the military one of his greatest lifelong achievements. 

After his active Naval Career Boyd returned to Michigan to work for Kellogg’s. He retired after 36 years of loyal employment, and was a member of the Kellogg’s 25 year club. 

Boyd loved fishing, hunting, gardening and woodworking. He was always tinkering with something in the barn. Boyd loved playing horseshoes, and entertaining others. Spending time with his grandkids, and great grandkids, was one of his greatest joys in life. He and his wife, Eva, were married in 1994. They enjoyed traveling together, especially Las Vegas and Florida. They loved swimming, playing games, and time with friends and family. 

Boyd leaves behind his wife, Eva Crannell, two sons, Jason Crannell (Melody), and Stephen Crannell, and a daughter, Janette Burzan (John). In addition, his beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, and cousins. As well as, his loving step family from his 28 years of marriage to Eva.

 

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services.  Committal service with military honors are scheduled at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2023 at Fort Custer National Cemetery,  15501 Dickman Rd, Augusta MI.   Immediately following will be a ‘Celebration of Life’ at JB Whiskey Old Style Grill 3905 W. Dickman Rd., Springfield MI 49037. Memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
