Danine Joy Colwell

Danine Joy Colwell, age 93, of Battle Creek, passed away on April 27, 2025, at Pineview Assisted Living surrounded by her family. She was born on February 6, 1932, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the daughter of Donald and Marion (Parry) Francisco. Danine was a lifelong resident of Battle Creek, graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 1950. She previously worked in the office and as a hostess at the Buckingham Restaurant and the Waterfront Restaurant in Battle Creek. Danine was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and was a member of the St. Mary’s Circle at the church. She was also an active member of the PTA while her children were in school. Danine was united in marriage on November 22, 1950, to William A. Colwell. Danine along with her husband, enjoyed traveling, attending grandchildren’s activities and doing craft projects which included: sewing, woodworking, basket weaving and making special wooden gifts for the family. She was preceded in death by her husband, William on November 16, 2011. Also preceding her in death were her parents, son, Thomas A. Colwell, daughter, Judith A. Palmer, granddaughter, Jacqueline D. Palmer, and a grandson, Matthew Bish. Surviving are her daughter, Ruth (Roy) Downs of Battle Creek, son in law, Jeff Palmer of Battle Creek, grandchildren; Robert (Chris) Downs, Rebecca (Tom) Reed, Ronald (Amy) Downs, Nicole (Jon) Risk, Natalie Colwell, Jenifer (Nolan) Palmer, twelve great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 15, 2025, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, where the family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the service. Rev. Michael Spencer Officiating. Inurnment will follow the service at Fort Custer National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
