David L. Sprague Sr.

David Louis Sprague Sr. passed away on March 27, 2026, at the age of 90. He was born and raised in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Jesse and Merciel Sprague. The family lived on Graves Avenue and attended St. Philip Catholic Church, where David graduated in 1954. His father managed the Rex Theatre, and his mother worked at the Post Tavern.

After working as a draftsman for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, David returned to Battle Creek, where he entered into Holy Matrimony with Nancy J Ughetti. He went on to teach Drafting at Olivet High School for many years and served as president of the Chess Club. He was a self-taught painter who completed dozens of landscapes and portraits. He kept a lifelong interest in General George A. Custer and the Civil War and was a member of the Little Big Horn Association. He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge of Battle Creek.

He is reunited with his wife, Nancy, beloved Noni to his grandchildren; his parents, Jesse and Merciel; and his brother, Joseph Stanley.

He is survived by his sister, Laura Miller; his son and daughter-in-law, David II and Tina Sprague; and his grandsons, Patrick, Mark, Adam, and John Luke.
