David Walker, Age 79, of Battle Creek, passed away on August 17, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. David was born on May 27, 1946, in Detroit, MI, the son of Dwight and Frances (Sietz) Walker. He grew up in Port Huron, MI, before he eventually moved to the Battle Creek area. He was a dedicated professional, David enjoyed a career that began with the Muskegon County Health Department. He then transitioned to pharmaceutical sales for 10 years before he started working as an inspector for the VanBuren/Cass County District Health Department.
David earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from Ferris State University in Big Rapids, graduating in the spring of 1973. His community engagement was significant; he was an active member of the Jaycee in Muskegon, MI, and the Lakeview Optimist Club in Battle Creek. David was a founding member of the soccer field and program at Riverside School and devoted his time as a coach for softball, little league, and soccer.
His commitment to service extended to the military, where he honorably served as a hospital Corpsman in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, earning a Purple Heart for his bravery. He was a member of the Calhoun County DAV Chapter #7, the MO of the Purple Heart #110, and the American Legion #298. David's faith was paramount; he served as a Vestry member and Acolyte leader at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Battle Creek.
He married Delores (Armstrong) Walker on September 27, 1969, and together they nurtured a family that includes their daughter Deborah (George) Rodriguez, son David (Toni) Walker II, and grandchildren David Walker III, Sebastion, Arianna, and Anthony Rodrigues. He is also survived by his beloved wife Delores. David was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Frances (Sietz) Walker, his sister Susan Dell, and granddaughter Ashley Walker.
A memorial service will be held for David on September 27th at 1:00 PM at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. 2435 W Territorial Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s association. www.henryfuneralhome.org
