Doris Mae Grable

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Doris Mae Grable, Age 95, on November 18, 2025. Doris was born on April 24, 1930 to Carl and Mildred Gladstone.

Doris always shared fond memories of her childhood, especially growing up with her two brothers, Richard and LaVerne. The stories of them taking her frog hunting sounded like something out of a cartoon. If you knew Doris, that’s exactly who she was…a character.

Doris met Walter (Curly) Grable when she was 16. They fell in love immediately, but he was a gentleman and waited until she turned 18 to ask for her hand in marriage. Doris and Curly were married for 51 years. He preceded her in death in 2001. They welcomed three children: Cindy (Steve), Debbie (Steve) and Steve (Julie). Yep, three Steves! She always got a kick out of that.

Doris had four grandchildren: Jenni (Rick), Missy (Keith), Mandi (Dustin) and Sean. She had five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She had multiple nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who meant the world to her. If you knew Doris in any way, you know she loved you. Even when she talked to a stranger in a store, her kindness shined bright.

Doris gave the best hugs, gave the best advice, made the best food, sewed the best hem and gave everyone the best laugh. She loved us all “a bushel and a peck and hug around the neck”. Her kind, loving heart, great sense of humor and famous food will never be forgotten.

A huge hug and thank you to the staff at Evergreen who cared for Doris during her final years. Thank you for treating her as if she was a member of your own family and for creating her beautiful hairstyles. She always liked to look her best. You are all appreciated more than you know. To quote a certain staff member: “love you more.”

Cremation has taken place. A private service for family will be held. In lieu of flowers or condolences, please share your favorite/funny memories of Doris on The Richard A Henry Funeral Home website.
