Dorothy F. Misner

Dorothy F. Misner, age 102, of East Leroy, Michigan, passed away on May 31, 2025, at Lakeview Assisted Living. She was born on November 10, 1922, in Oakwood, Texas, the daughter of Robert A. and Edna D. (Perry) Spiller. Dorothy graduated in 1940 from Oakwood High School. She went to school for aircraft training, working in Waco, Texas where she met her future husband, Harry “Pete” Misner. He was stationed at the Black Land Airforce Base in Waco. After Dorothy finished her training school, she was transferred to work at Consolidated Aircraft in Fort Worth, Texas. Pete would make trips from Waco to Fort Worth to visit Dorothy on weekends when he was off duty. Pete and Dorothy were united in marriage on October 2, 1943, following their marriage she moved back to Waco to be with Pete. Pete and Dorothy moved to Battle Creek after he left the service. Pete was fortunate to have a job waiting with his father and brothers at their grocery-meat store. Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, knitting, reading, crafting, and cooking. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family, being active in her children’s and grandchildren’s lives. After Pete retired, they spent many winters in Texas, visiting family and spending time at their rental in Port Arkansas, an island in the Gulf. At an early age, Dorothy became a member at First Christian Church in Oakwood, Texas. After moving to Battle Creek she attended First Evangelical Church, later became a member at Trinity United Methodist Church which later merged with Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in 2018. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law, Lynne Misner, and sisters Edna Rabe and Frances Petsch. She is survived by her sons; George E. (Jeanette Barnes) Misner of Coleman, MI., Michael D. (Susan Hockman) Misner of Huntington Beach, CA., sisters; Dixie and Aleyne, grandsons; Lance Michael (Terri) Misner, Chad Edward (Emily) Misner, great grandchildren, Maria, Macy, Zachary, and many nieces and nephews. Memorial service scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Rev. David Dryer and Dawn Dye of Lakeview Assisted Living, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Alzheimer’s Association, or the American Cancer Society.
