Dorothy (Dottie) Mrozovich, aged 85, of Battle Creek, passed away, Saturday morning, June 14, 2025, at her residence. She was born, the youngest of twins, on July 28, 1939, in Edmore, Michigan, to Royal Cecil and Edith Elizabeth (Saubert) Mathewson, both of whom preceded her in death. Dottie graduated from Belding High School and attended Andrews University while waiting to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. She completed basic training at Parris Island, South Carolina. During her enlistment, she was a motion picture film editor along with completing training in photography. Dottie was stationed at Quantico, Virginia, where she met her husband, Louis Mrozovich. After several dates, they were married one week later. They shared almost 53 years together before he passed away in 2015. When she found out she was pregnant with her first child, she was given an honorable discharge at the rank of Lance Corporal. Dottie worked at Riverside Manor, Leila Hospital, the Battle Creek Veteran’s Administration Medical Center, and the Hart-Doyle-Inouye Federal Center. She worked in housekeeping/maintenance mostly except the Battle Creek VAMC where she worked in the kitchen preparing and serving meals. Dottie was raised a Seventh-Day Adventist and was a member of the Urbandale Seventh-Day Adventist Church where she participated in various activities throughout her membership. Dottie enjoyed working with wood. She made toy boxes for her children along with various other projects that can be found around her house and yard. She learned wood carving and enjoyed giving her figurines and pictures to friends and family. She took her family camping often and also one year to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula to backpack the Porcupine Mountains. She enjoyed hiking and looking for wildflowers (of which there are hundreds of photos to prove it). Dottie pretty much enjoyed anything that took her outdoors. Dottie was preceded in death by her son Steven Mrozovich, daughter Susan McKinney, grandson Louis Mrozovich, brothers Leo, Cecil, Lyle, and Rex Mathewson, sisters-in-law LaVerna and Marcia Mathewson, and brother-in-law James Stockton. Dottie is survived by her daughter, Brenda Richards of Battle Creek, son, James Mrozovich of Lansing, son-in-law Kevin McKinney, daughter-in-law Irma Mrozovich, 6 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
