Dorothy Jane Wank, 95, of Battle Creek, passed away Wednesday April 24, 2024, at Bronson Battle Creek surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was born October 4, 1928, in Kalamazoo, Michigan the daughter of Ralph and Ella (Prolo) Richmond. She attended Athens school. Dorothy retired from the water billing department at the city of Springfield after around 30 years. She also had done volunteering at Valley View Elementary School.
Dorothy married James Wank, February 9, 1946, at The First Congregational
Church, Battle Creek, Michigan. Jim and Dorothy made their home in Battle Creek later moving to the city of Springfield, Michigan.
Dorothy liked spending time with her children and grandchildren. Jim and Dorothy enjoyed taking their grandchildren to Ritzee restaurant where they enjoyed chili cheese dogs and french fries. Grandma always had ice cream in her freezer when the grandkids came over and also a supply of frozen marshmallows. Saturday night was pizza night at grandmas. Christmas tree decorating was always at grandmas on Friday after Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner was served in the basement with buffet on the pool table.
After Jim’s passing Dorothy moved to Lakeview Assisted Living where she made new friends and enjoyed many outings. She enjoyed playing bingo and an occasional visit to the casino where her daughter would meet her. She enjoyed making jewelry and sewing. Dorothy also enjoyed watching her Detroit Tigers. Dorothy was also a member of St. Joseph catholic church. Jim and Dorothy enjoyed camping in their younger years and traveled to many of the states as well as many camping trips in Michigan being members of the Fighting River Campers.
Dorothy is survived by her son and his wife Robert and Joanne Wank of Marshall, Michigan and daughter and son-in-law Diana and Robert Sheets of Climax, Michigan. She has six loving grandchildren Gregory and (Emily) Wank, Jenny Wank, Robert and (Laura) Sheets, Philip and (Tracy) Sheets, Steven and (Tricia) Sheets and Michelle and (Todd) Fields. Eleven loving great-grandchildren Lizzie Wank, Chelsea Sheets, Madison Sheets, Jacob Sheets, Ashley Sheets, Jazmine Sheets, Sarah Sheets, Abbey Sheets, Kaylynn Fields, Topanga Fields, and Ryleigh Fields. Also her new family at Lakeview Assisted Living especially her friend Janet.
Dorothy was presided by her husband Jim February 11, 2006, her sister Lucille Champion and brothers Lester Richmond, Carl Richmond, Albert Gray and Elmer Gray.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Richard A. Funeral Home & Cremation Services, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Fr. Christopher Ankley, officiating. Interment will follow the service at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Dorothy’s name may be directed to Lakeview Assisted Living.
