Dulce Maria Mercado-Depena

Dulce Maria Mercado de Peña, 77 years old, a resident of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on November 1, 2026. Her unexpected departure leaves a deep, irreparable void in the lives of her family and friends.

Dulce was born in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, to Alejandro Padilla and Felicita Mercado. She was the second eldest of 14 siblings. She always cared for and looked after her brothers and sisters, as her parents passed away at a young age. She graduated as an accountant and practiced the profession for many years, including as an auditor. Her passions were reading, classical music, and learning about other countries.

Since her childhood, she accepted Jesus as her Savior and dedicated a large part of her life to serving in different roles, especially working as a children's teacher in the Adventist church.

Dulce's favorite pastime was collecting coins, figurines, and antique stamps. She loved to cook and bake. She also encouraged young people to strive for success and pursue careers. She and her husband, Juan, opened their home and their hearts on Saturday nights to spend time with young people.

Dulce had lived with her husband, Juan Pena Pimentel, with whom she shared 60 years. 56 years of marriage and 4 years of dating. Dulce was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter Wanda. She had a loving relationship with her daughters Nubia and Johanna; her sons-in-law Oriel and Carlos; her grandchildren Oriel Alexander, Nurieliz, Kristopher, and Kayden; her brothers and sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law who will remember her with great affection.

The memorial service for her will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Battle Creek Tabernacle Church, 264 W Michigan Ave., Battle Creek, MI 49037.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude to all relatives and friends who have offered love, support, and affection during this difficult time. We deeply appreciate your consideration and presence.

Dulce will be fondly remembered and will always be remembered by all who knew and loved her. She will live forever in our hearts.
