Evelyn  B.  Geerts, Age 94, Of Battle Creek, Michigan, Died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. Evelyn was born on August 31, 1916, in Wakarusa, IN, the daughter of Edward and Nellie (Kehr) Brenneman. She had been a resident of the area since 1939 coming from Elkhart, IN. She was a graduate of Wakarusa High School in 1934. On November 26, 1938, she was united in marriage to Maurice V. “Mickey” Geerts who preceded her in death in 1975. She was employed by Adams and Westlake until she moved to Battle Creek in 1950.  She and her husband co-founded Geerts Fuel Oil and Geerts Soft water Company which she owned and operated until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, member and treasurer of Esther Circle, was named Special Lady at Trinity United Methodist Church, Big Sister of the Year in 1975 and was a volunteer at Lakeview General Hospital. Surviving are children, Bonnie L. Anderson and Mickey T. (Penny) Geerts; grandchildren, Terri (Bruce) Miller, Lori (Paul) DeSchryver, Vicki (Tad) Ralston, Wendi (David)Keathley, Haley Mackey, Leann Geerts (Kevin Sproull) and Chelsea Geerts and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters and a great grandson, Travis Keathley. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek with The Rev. Bruce Kintigh officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. A private interment will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.
