Helen Easterly

October 16, 1923 — February 6, 2023

Carrollton, TX, formerly of Battle Creek, MI

Helen passed away Monday, February 6, 2023 after a short illness. She was born October 16, 1923 to Eli and Sadie Durakovich in Battle Creek, Michigan. Helen loved life, her family and friends. She graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1943. She worked in several physician offices, was an assistant credit manager at Sears, and was an office manager at Quality Wood Products. Helen and her late husband, Dale Easterly, loved big band music and often went to see bands play and dance. She also loved her flowers and for many years planted hundreds of bulbs around her house. Helen was a wonderful cook and host. You never left her house hungry! She frequently sent meals to family and friends. She was known for her sarma (stuffed cabbage), stuffed peppers, potato salad and chicken noodle soup. Helen was a sports fan and enjoyed watching tennis, football, basketball and baseball. Her favorite teams were the Michigan Wolverines, the Detroit Tigers, and more recently the Dallas Cowboys. She could name many of the players and coaches. In recent years Helen made her home in Carrollton, Texas with her daughter Rebecca (Becky) Moser, who was everything to her. Helen’s marriage to Earl Moser ended in divorce. Helen is survived by her daughter, her brother Mike Durock, and loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, her parents, and her sisters Smelia Obren, Mary Spaulding, Maxine Medich, Zorka Radick, and Boya Byelich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North East Food Pantry Fund at the Battle Creek Community Foundation (32 W Michigan Ave., Suite 1, Battle Creek, MI 49017), which Helen generously supported annually. Per Helen’s wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
