Jacob "Jake" Ivan Beard

Died after a brief illness on Monday, July 6, 2026. Jake was born on March 21, 1936, in Battle Creek, the son of James C. and Iva Beard. He had been a lifelong resident and attended Battle Creek Central High School. Jake was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He was employed with the City of Battle Creek for 31 years retiring as a foreman. He married Sandra “Sandy” Byrd on May 24, 2002, she survives. Jake enjoyed woodworking and built his own home. He also enjoyed working on automobiles. Surviving is his wife Sandy Byrd and a brother Jerry Beard. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, John, Jim, Jorg and Joe Beard; sisters, Wanda Wellington and Lucretia Beard. A graveside service will be held at Hicks Cemetery at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 10, 2026. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. www.henryfuneralhome.org
