Jane Caswell, 78, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at Reflections Memory Care, surrounded by care and comfort. She was born on April 13, 1947, in Sand Lake, Michigan.
Jane’s early years reflected the close-knit values she carried out throughout her life. She attended a one-room elementary school taught by her mother and later graduated from Sand Lake High School. The summer following graduation, she was crowned Sand Lake Festival Queen — a moment that reflected her vibrant spirit and the joy she brought to others.
Jane began her career at Ore-Ida Foods before pursuing a meaningful path in healthcare. She worked in critical care at Battle Creek Health System and Bronson Hospital, dedicating over 20 years of compassionate service before retiring. Her work reflected her caring nature and commitment to helping others during some of their most vulnerable moments.
After marriage, Jane embraced adventure alongside her husband, Jerry. Together they pursued exciting experiences including whitewater rafting and hot air ballooning. Jane became an active member of the Balloon Federation of America and was honored as an official observer for hot air balloon competitions in Japan, multiple world competitions, and U.S. National events — experiences that reflected both her adventurous spirit and love of travel.
Outside of her professional and adventurous pursuits, Jane found deep joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved horses, spending time at the lake, baking for family and friends, relaxing in the sunshine, and enjoying the companionship of her dog. One of the greatest highlights of her life was raising her beloved granddaughter, Haillie, who brought her immense pride and happiness.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Winifred and Emil Huntoon, and her brothers Jess and Fred. She is survived by her loving husband, Jerry Caswell; her brothers Max and Larry; her sisters Joyce (Harold) and Carolyn (Frank); her two children, Jerry Petersen and Jeff Petersen; her cherished granddaughter, Haillie; along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her warmth, kindness, and adventurous spirit.
Jane will be remembered for her caring heart, her sense of adventure, and the love she shared with those around her.
A memorial service celebrating Jane’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13, 2026, at North Athens Baptist Church, 2020 M Drive South, Athens, Michigan. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the services. A light lunch will be served following the service.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Reflections Memory Care for their compassion and dedicated care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Battle Creek Shrine Club at 21945 Bedford Road N., Battle Creek, Michigan, in honor of Jane’s life and legacy. www.henryfuneralhome.org
