Jim Vaughn McCulley

Jim McCulley, 90, of Battle Creek passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2023.  He was born on January 10, 1933 in Pikeville, Tennessee, the son of Jack and Cora (Hancock) McCulley.  Jim has been a resident of Battle Creek since his family moved to the area in 1943.  He was employed as a union carpenter for 38 years in Southwest Michigan, retiring in 1998.  Jim enjoyed hunting, watching baseball and basketball games on TV with his son Jack.  He also enjoyed spending time with his daughter and grandchildren.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Jim and Sam McCulley, half-brother, Don Hancock, sisters; Nan Hancock, Joyce Bailey, and Bess Jordan.  Jim was united in marriage on March 20, 1954 to his beloved wife, Winifred (Jacoy) McCulley, she preceded him in death on April 17, 2021.  Surviving are his children, Jack V. McCulley of Battle Creek, Miranda L. (Dr. Kyle Smith) of Birmingham, Michigan, grandchildren; Alyssa Smith and Dr. Zachary Smith also of Birmingham.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Augusta United Methodist Church, 103 Webster St., Augusta, Michigan, where a memorial service will follow at 5:00 p.m.  Following the service, a dinner and reception will take place.  In accordance with Jim’s wishes, cremation had taken place with inurnment at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Smile Train or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  Memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
