John Wesley Atkinson III, Age 71 of Battle Creek, Michigan passed away on Friday March 3, 2023 at Bronson Hospital Kalamazoo. John was born in Portland Maine February 19th, 1952 Son to John and Lurine Atkinson. He served in Vietnam from 1970-1974. He worked at Mare Island Naval shipyard in Vallejo, California and Everett Naval station in Everett, Washington as a pipefitter for 36 years. John loved spending time with his family, he loved traveling with his wife Tammie and going to antique stores, he loved watching oldies on TV and liked doing his cross word puzzles. He was also a die-hard San Francisco 49ers fan. John and Tammie were married in Reno, Nevada on June 11th, 1983. They were married for 39 years. They have 3 children Jennifer (Justin) Simmons of Battle Creek, Michigan. Melissa (Keith) Piccirilli of Seattle, Washington and John (Brandi) Atkinson of Lake Stevens, Washington. John had 3 sisters Pat, Georgia and Tammy and 3 brothers, David, Mike and Scott and many nieces and nephews. He has 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Lurine Atkinson, sisters Pat and Georgia and brother David.

 

Funeral services will be held at 20th Street Church of Christ on April 1st, 2023 at 1:00 pm Visitation will at 12:30 pm Minister Josh Hydrick will be officiating. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
