John Douglas Ruble

With deep sorrow we share the news of John D. Ruble’s passing who peacefully returned to God on June 11, 2025. John was born on April 29, 1954, in Battle Creek, He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence H. and Lida (Landreth) Ruble, his stepmother, Mignon and a sister, Leesa M. Ruble-Wellwood. He had been a lifelong resident of the area graduating from Lakeview high School. He was a Navy veteran from 1974 to 1977, stationed in Italy. He remained in Italy for 2 years enjoying hiking and camping. Returning to Battle Creek he was employed by TRMI in the maintenance department receiving his maintenance associate’s degree from KCC. He retired after 32 years of service at TRMI on May 1, 2022. He attended St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, St. Joseph and of late, St. Mary Catholic Church in Kalamazoo. John followed politics closely. He demonstrated exceptional character with an ability to bring humor to conversations and had a profound impact on his fellow employees, friends and family. But most of all he persevered in practicing his Catholic faith. Surviving is a daughter, Savannah (Colt) Ruble-Vanvleet, a granddaughter, Maddie; a brother, David L. (Cheri)Ruble, Sr.; a sister, Deidre (Danny) Ruble- Wellwood; half-sister; Sueann (Bob) Krug, step-brothers and step-sisters; George (Georgia) Sluyter, David (Heidi) Sluyter, Linda (Terry) Carlson, Tom Swank and Marty Swank; cherished friend, Crestlie Bauman; many nieces and nephews. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at St. Philip Roman Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to the service. A Rosary will be recited at 11:00a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
