Josephine Elizondo

Josephine Elizondo, 80, of Battle Creek passed away Thursday March 31, 2011 at her home. She was born on October 26, 1930 in Detroit to Pedro and Dolores (Villicana) Ponce. On December 26, 1954, she was united in marriage to Federico Elizondo who survives. She was employed as a Domestic Engineer, worked in the St. Joseph School cafeteria and in her younger years worked for the Mexican Government in Mexico City. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Spanish Ladies Rosary, St. Vincent DePaul Society and the Altar Society. Josephine enjoyed being with her family and grandchildren.  She is survived by her children, Mary (Jonathan) Whitehead of San Anselmo, CA, Alicia (Hans) Stark of Battle Creek and Fred Elizondo, Jr. of Battle Creek; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Margarita DeSoto of Florida, Gerardo Ponce of Detroit and Mary Jane Danko of Detroit, step-sisters, Lucy (Tex) Vega, and Annabel Martinez, and a step-brother, Paully (Linda) Levesque. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Maria Elizondo in 1966, a grandson, Vincent Elizondo in 1990 and a brother, Luis Ponce in 2007, a step-father, Leon Levesque who died in 1977.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m., at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday April 4, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with The Very Rev. Robert F. Creagan VF officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
