Judy Maureen Gillespie

Judy M. Gillespie, age 89 of Battle Creek, passed away on December 30, 2025, at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born on May 1,1936 at Selfridge Field in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the daughter of Maurice and Cliffie (Bays) Henry Jr. Judy lived in Mt. Clemens before moving to San Diego, California where she attended school and met her husband. Judy married Leonard Gillespie on September 4, 1953, in Reno, Nevada. As a devoted military spouse, she proudly traveled with Leonard during his service in the United States Air Force, living in Morocco, England, Massachusetts, Missouri, and California. Upon his retirement, they happily settled down in Northland, MI. Judy was a member of the Watson Bible Church in Watson, Michigan and enjoyed a quiet life with friends in the Upper Peninsula. Judy found joy in simple pleasures, including playing cards and Scrabble, spending time in nature while feeding the wildlife, sewing, and creating thoughtful craft projects. In 2003, following the passing of her husband, Judy moved to Battle Creek to be closer to her family and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Maurice “Sonny” Henry and Donn Kittrell, and her sister, June Henry. She is survived by her daughters; Lynn Maul of Buena, WA., Nancy Gillespie of Sacramento, CA., Vicki (William) Struble of East Leroy, MI., adopted daughter, Sharyl DeVet, grandchildren; Douglas (Joy) Struble, Julie (Brandon) Williams, Shawn (George) Tanksley, Katrina (Chad) Wright, three adopted grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. The family also wishes to acknowledge two close family friends: Dave Williams for delivering a touching tribute and for his support during this difficult time and Melba Boles, for her constant support, kindness, and friendship. A Memorial Service will be held 12:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Pastor John Lippard officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service time. Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery following the service.
