Kenneth A. Beninghaus, age 71 passed away peacefully at his home in Battle Creek on September 16, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born on May 26, 1952, in Battle Creek, Ken was the son of Carl Darwin Beninghaus and June (Edens) Jones. He attended Harper Creek High School and graduated in 1970. Ken dedicated  thirty years of service to the City of Battle Creek before retiring. He was a member of the Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the Service Employees International Union (S.E.I.U.),  serving as both a local and regional president. Ken was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party. He enjoyed spending time with his family, reading books and was particularly passionate about Star Trek. Ken was a member of the Downtown Church in Battle Creek. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family: his beloved wife of 43 years, Sherry (Bonke) Beninghaus; daughters Tiffiany Amaro and Tonya (Tim) Beninghaus-Slack; son Kenneth A. (Talia Ward) Beninghaus, Jr.; adopted son James Robinson;  and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his parents and stepfather Ross Jones, son Jay Bonke, son-in-law, Eric Amaro, and great-grandson Silas Amaro.  The family will receive friends at the Richard A Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 21, 2023, at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens  1490 E Michigan Ave, Battle Creek. The family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Calhoun County Animal Center. www.henryfuneralhome.org
