Lawrence J. Wise,Jr.

Died on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Battle Creek. Lawrence was born on January 24, 1937, in Battle Creek, the son of Lawrence J. and Vena W. (Fish) Wise. He had been a lifelong resident of the area and attended Batlle Creek Central High School. He married the former Sally M. Erskine on May 18, 1968. She preceded him in death in 2024. Lawrence worked for the Battle Creek Shopper for 30 years as a Zone Manager. He also did roofing and siding, worked for the State of Michigan and Super Par gas stations around the Battle Creek area. He was a member of Urbandale Baptist Church since 1981, was a greeter and managed the lawncare at the church for 20 plus years. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, hunting, was involved in Golden Gloves Boxing and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Surviving is a son, Anthony J. Wise of Battle Creek and a daughter, Angie Toungett of Leoma, TN; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Thomas Wise in 2007; two brothers, David Wise, Charles “Buddy” Wise and 5 sisters, Marie Kornoelje, Jane Whitney, Lois Barroso, Shirley Evans and Christine Raines. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the Urbandale Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Interment will be at Floral lawn Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 16, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials may be given to Centrica Care Navigators Hospice or to the family in care of Anthony J.
