Lester Leif Stenberg

Lester Leif Stenberg, age 68 of Augusta, died Sunday, February 8, 2026. He was born June 15, 1957, in Fairbanks, Alaska the son of Stanley and Louise (Knudson) Stenberg and was proud of his Alaskan Heritage. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving from 1974 to 1978. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Alaska working on the North Slope for several years. He moved to Battle Creek in 1988 where he began working as a Personnel officer at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, a position he held for over 30 years until his retirement. Lester is survived by two children: Leif (Kate) Stenberg and Erica Richards; one grandson Bryson Richards; two brothers: John Paul Stenberg and Eric Stenberg; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Kjell Stenberg; two brothers: Stanley and Roger, and one sister Lana. In keeping with his wishes, Lester has been cremated and a Graveside Service will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, May 1, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. Those wishing to attend please meet in the assembly area prior to the service time.
