Isabel (Izzy) Blakeslee, age 91 of Marshall passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Maplewood of Marshall. She was born Jan 29, 1920, in Marshall to Harriet (Brown) and Howard Chapman. She married William Hartley Blakeslee on June 29, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1997. Izzy was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Ladies Auxiliary Guild in Marshall. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and Marshall High School. She worked as a waitress at Win Schuler's for many years. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to cook and bake. She never let anyone leave her house hungry. She loved music and was a great dancer. Isabel met her husband, Hartley, on the dance floor. She loved to entertain and always welcomed company with open arms. Izzy was full of life, a loving sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Isabel is survived by her sister, Mannie Anderson of Cincinnati, OH and brother Chuck Chapman of Marshall; five children; Linda (Garey) Haefele of Marshall; Carol (Clifford) Galen of Battle Creek; Jean (David) Heatherly of Charlevoix; Joan Blakeslee Kempf of Farmington Hills, and William Hartley (Carolyn) Blakeslee II of Delton; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Chapman, James Chapman, Jack Chapman and Thomas Chapman; her sister Mary Chapman and her husband William Hartley Blakeslee. Family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Thursday January 12, 2012 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, Battle Creek. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1:00pm Friday, January 13, 2012 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Marshall with The Reverend Stephen Naas officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Family requests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society and St. Mary's Catholic Church.
