Mark Sullivan

Mark Robert Sullivan, age 69, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away on July 20, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Mark was born on August 8, 1955, in Battle Creek to Charles and Mildred Sullivan. He grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1973. He went on to earn degrees in Latin, Education, and Medieval Studies from Western Michigan University.

From Kalamazoo, Mark moved his family to Cross Plains, Wisconsin, where they lived from 1994 to 2010. After his children were grown, he returned to Battle Creek to care for his parents in their final years.

Mark’s passions were many: writing, painting, music, and language. He was an avid reader his whole life. A true dreamer, he was always curious, always learning. Above all, though, his greatest pride was in his beloved children and grandchildren.

He will be remembered for laughing himself into asthma attacks, three-hour phone conversations, countless pots of spaghetti, and his many stacks of books, banjos, and dice.

Mark is survived by his brother Dan (Jo) Sullivan and his children: Sean Sullivan (Carol Poppe), Kerry Sullivan (Ryan Rastedt), William Sullivan (Rebecca Riley), and Patric Sullivan (Svetlana Litvinchuk); and by his grandchildren: Nathaniel, Austin, Jason, Abraham, Katherine, Sidney, Mila, and Evelyn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Sullivan, and his brother, Thomas Sullivan.

In Mark's memory please hug your children tightly, politely greet a neighbor, and know that no matter your commitment to independence, you are surrounded by people who will show up to help in times of need. As Mark would say, thank you kindly.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, with arrangements by Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made to Chapel Hill United Methodist Church.
