Mary Louise (Wilson) Baird, age 94, passed away July 4, 2020 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility in Battle Creek. She was born April 21,1926 to parents that had immigrated to Battle Creek from Northern Ireland in 1911. She was the last surviving child of Alexander and Matilda (McLaughlin) Wilson.
Mary graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and married William David Baird in 1946. They celebrated 66 years of marriage before his death in 2012. Along with raising her three sons, she spent her working career at Weston Biscuit, Robinson's Department Store and the Battle Creek Friends Church where she served as the church secretary for 21 years. She and her husband were members of the church and active participants.
Mary was provided a "Royal Birthday" celebration for her 90th birthday by her family while residing at Heritage Assisted Living. She was born the same day and year as Queen Elizabeth, so a royal celebration was in order and well attended by many friends and relatives. It was difficult getting her to wear her crown for the celebration as she didn't want to disturb her hair. She was very particular how her hair looked, so it was no small feat getting the crown on. We will miss our "Queen Mary", her sense of humor, and waves from the windows.
Mary enjoyed playing the organ, attending church, traveling, dining out, and spending time with her family and relatives. She is survived by William B (Barbara) Baird, Bloomington, IL, John (Deb) Baird, Rockford, MI. and David (Cindy) Baird of Battle Creek in addition to eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, David (Marilyn) Baird of Fulton, MI., and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Calhoun County Medical Care, Reflections Memory Care and Heritage Assisted Living for Mary's care during the past four years.
Funeral arrangements provided by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Interment will take place at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek. A private grave side service will be conducted, with a memorial service anticipated at a future date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Battle Creek Friends Church or a charity of ones choice.
