Mary Lu Deibel, Age 72, born on October 22, 1953, in Battle Creek, Michigan, peacefully passed away on March 28, 2026, in her hometown. A devoted nurse and compassionate caregiver, Lu dedicated 11 years of her career to orthopedic nursing before spending 25 rewarding years as an Emergency Room nurse at Leila Hospital where she worked for majority of her career. She also worked at Community Hospital, and Battle Creek health system Hospital for a few years towards the end of her career.
Lu earned her nursing degree from the Holy Cross School of Nursing—a foundation that propelled her lifelong commitment to health and healing. Her professional journey reflected not only skill but a deep empathy for those in need, qualities that endeared her to colleagues and patients alike. Lu is also a proud graduate of St. Phillip Catholic High School class of 1971.
On January 19, 1979, Lu married her beloved husband, Wayne Deibel. Their partnership was a cornerstone of her life, enriched by shared winters spent in Florida for over 16 years and cherished trips to Las Vegas. Lu’s zest for life extended to attending plays at Miller Auditorium and Barn Theater, indulging in shopping excursions, and celebrating joyous times with friends in the vibrant “55 and up” community.
She is lovingly remembered by Wayne Deibel; her daughter, Jessica (Jeremy) Deibel; and her brother, Thomas (Peggy) Hurst. Lu’s many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her close circle included dear friends Judy Andrews, Lorretta Madden, and Lynette Hoskins, who, along with several grand cats, brought warmth and companionship to her days.
Lu was preceded in death by her son, Ryan Deibel, sister-in-law Dawn (Deibel) Debrunie and her parents, Thomas and Marjorie (Bobenmoyer) Hurst.
Visitation will be held on April 7, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a Rosary at 6:00 PM at Richard A Henry Funeral Home, 703 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015. Funeral services will take place on April 8, 2026, at 1:00 PM with visitation hours taking place from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the same location. Following the conclusion of the funeral service there will be a procession for the graveside service at Memorial Park cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital or the Humane society
Lu Deibel’s legacy of kindness, dedication, and joy will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
