Melvin “Hoppy” Lee Adair, age 78, passed away into the loving arms of Jesus on September 12, 2025, at his home in Battle Creek, MI. He was born on August 24, 1947, in Hastings, Michigan, to the late Lee and Edith Adair.
Melvin graduated from Penfield High School in 1965 and went on to receive a certificate from the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in 1969. He dedicated his career to Kellogg’s company, where he worked in production for over 30 years before retiring.
In his free time, Melvin found joy in playing golf and taking walks, whether at the mall or the casino. Melvin regularly attended men's breakfasts at his church and bible studies where he would invite his sons and grandchildren. On walks Melvin always looked for ways to share books, cds, and tracts to encourage people to know God and/or strengthen their faith.
He is survived by his sister, Judith Walldorff of Hastings, Michigan, and his nephews and nieces, Daniel, Tara, Mike, and Mark. He is also survived by his first wife Sylvia Rose, and their three sons: Timothy and his wife Jody Adair, Stephen and his wife Mara Adair, and his son James Adair, all of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Melvin was a beloved grandfather to many grandchildren: Alexis (Hunter) Barnett, Alaina (Austin) Wilkinson, Joshua and his wife Olivia Adair, Jonathan, Caleb, Clay, Timothy, Tobias, Gloria, and Gracelin Adair. He was also a cherished grandfather to Jacob Wasyliw, Tabitha Tomasi, and Lucas Adair, Lucas Teunessen, Caleb Teunessen, Annie Teunessen, Kaet Teunessen.
His legacy also lives on through his great-grandchildren, Anne and Wesley Wilkinson, Raiden, Apollo, Atlas, and Ella Barnett, Alice Adair, and Ezra Ari.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Tarsney.
A memorial service will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church of Battle Creek, Michigan, on October 4th. The service will begin at 2:00 PM followed by a time of sharing memories and light refreshments afterwards.
