Michael George Kohl, age 76 formerly of Algonac, Michigan passed away surrounded by family at The Reflections Memory Care Residence in Battle Creek, Michigan on September 24, 2022.
Mike was born on May 11, 1946 in Detroit, MI, son of the late Henry P. and Lucille C. (Ball) Kohl. Mike grew up and attended Denby High School and Wayne Community College in Detroit Michigan. Mike served in the United States Marines, Devil Dogs, during the Vietnam War as a rifleman. He received 4 Purple Hearts, the Vietnam Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star and the Silver Star, presented to him by General Westmoreland, for returning into battle to extract his Captain and prisoners. During Mike’s career he worked as a Paper Salesman for Butler Paper Company, Veritiv and as a Contractor.
Mike married the love of his life, Sally Ann Marsh on January 20, 1979, in Port Huron, MI. They shared 40 years together.
Mike enjoyed being around family and friends and the many family gatherings and celebrations. His favorite activities were fishing, hunting and supporting the Detroit sports teams especially the Red Wings.
Mike is survived by his brother Frederick H. (Sandra K) Kohl of Madison Hts, MI; step-children: Daniel (Carol) Moran of Woodhaven, MI; Cynthia Schroerlucke of Battle Creek, MI; Sandra (Douglas) Campbell of Battle Creek, MI; Susan (William) Warner of Beulah, MI; John M. Moran of Algonac, MI; and Lori (Daniel) Loy of Orange, CA; Grandchildren - John (Michelle) Moran, Julie (Christopher) Martens, Jennifer Wensauer, Gregory (Ali) Rousos, Stephen(Chieu) Campbell, Christen(Dennis) Vyletel, David (Mei) Warner, Sara Loy and Christina Loy. Great grandchildren: Thomas and Matthew Wensauer, Jamiee and Jenna Moran, Joshua and Noah Martens. Nephew, Jason Kohl and his children, Eloise, Adelaide and Magdalen. Niece Michelle (Eric) Hansel and their children, Benjamin and Samantha.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sally, his parents Henry and Lucille a son-in-law, Richard Michael Schroerlucke and a grandson Loren H. Loy.
In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service. Interment with full military honors will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
