Phyllis May Fruin, age 94, of Battle Creek, passed away on July 29, 2023, at Kairos Dwelling in Kalamazoo. She was born on December 7, 1928, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Phyllis was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering love for her family.
Phyllis lived an extraordinary life grounded in love and faith. She dedicated herself to creating a warm and nurturing home for her loved ones. As a homemaker, she poured her heart into caring for her family and creating fond memories together. Phyllis's impeccable organizational skills and attention to detail made everyone feel welcome in her home.
In addition to her role as a homemaker, Phyllis also had a passion for supporting others through her secretarial work. She was an invaluable asset during her time at Clark Equipment Company and the jewelry store in downtown Battle Creek. With grace and efficiency, she carried out her responsibilities while bringing joy to those around her.
Phyllis was an active member of the community and found solace in attending St. Mark Lutheran Church, First Wesleyan Church, and Cornerstone Community Church. Her unwavering faith served as a guiding light throughout her life.
Outside of work and church commitments, Phyllis pursued various hobbies and interests that brought her joy and fulfillment. She was an avid square dancer and proudly belonged to the Sing a Diddie Square Dancers group. Camping trips allowed Phyllis to reconnect with nature and create lasting memories with loved ones. Her artistic talents shone through watercolor paintings that captured the beauty of the world around her. Phyllis also enjoyed challenging herself with puzzles that showcased her sharp mind. Her love for learning led her to engage in Bible Study sessions that deepened her spiritual understanding.
Phyllis cherished moments spent with her parents, her beloved husband, Russell Fruin, and their sons Steven, Charlie and David. Her warm and loving nature extended far beyond her immediate family.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Phyllis and William Charles, her son, Steven Fruin and her grandson, Nathan Fruin. Phyllis is survived by her devoted sons Charlie (Linda) Fruin and David (Kimberly) Fruin. She will be deeply missed by her brother William (Dorine) Charles, her nieces and nephews and her grandchildren Chris (Grace) Fruin, Sarah (Sam) Anderson, and Alex Fruin. Phyllis's step-grandchildren Heather Mitchell, Hannah Mitchell, and Haley Mitchell also held a cherished place in her heart. Her legacy continues in the lives of her three great-grandchildren.
The memories of Phyllis May Fruin will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be remembered for her unwavering love, her nurturing spirit, and the compassion she exuded towards others. Her contributions to her family and community leave an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation services will take place on August 12, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Richard A Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Battle Creek. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. All are welcome to attend as we celebrate the remarkable life of Phyllis May Fruin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Phyllis's memory to Kairos Dwelling or Gentiva Hospice, an organization that provided compassionate end-of-life care during Phyllis's final days.
Phyllis touched countless lives with her kindness and warmth. As we mourn our loss, let us also celebrate the incredible legacy she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace knowing that her love lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
