Rebecca Burgess

BAXTER CHAPEL-Rebecca Ann Burgess, a beloved community member and cherished family matriarch, passed away peacefully at her home in Livingston, Tennessee on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on August 27, 1946, in Silver Point, Tennessee, she was a proud native of this small town before moving to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1965. In 2021, she returned to Livingston, where she created lasting memories among family and friends.

A 1964 graduate of Upperman High School, Rebecca exhibited a spirit of determination and pride in her education, qualities that she carried with her throughout her life. She was deeply rooted in her community and known for her vibrant personality, enjoying activities that brought joy and excitement to her days. A true lover of life, she found great pleasure in visiting casinos to play her favorite slot machines. Additionally, she enjoyed nurturing plants in her garden and losing herself in the pages of captivating books.

Rebecca's loving legacy will live on through her family. She is survived by her sons, Michael (Darlene) Burgess of Georgia, and Martin "Marty" (Mark) Burgess of Kalamazoo, Michigan; her daughter, Michelle (Gilles) Hilliou of Livingston, Tennessee; and her sister, Euda Kate Shanks of Silver Point, Tennessee. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren: Joshua, Alex, Niklaus, Rachel, Seth, Rebecca, Bethany, and Joseph. Rebecca also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to twelve great-grandchildren: Myles, Liliana, Loic, Klaus, Oliver, Charlotte, Anniston, Avery, Ainsley, Deacon, Jaxson, and Josie.

Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, Julius Fowler and Nettie Katherine Prichard Allison; her husband, Johnny Burgess, who passed away on February 9, 1999; and her brother, Carson Allison. Her presence will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know and love her.

A visitation will be held at the Baxter Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home at 532 4th Ave. South, Baxter, TN on Thursday, January 29, 2026 from 11 AM to 1 PM with the funeral service beginning at 1 PM. Bro. Tony Crow will officiate. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek, MI.

A Visitation will be held at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home at 703 Capital Ave SW, Battle Creek, MI 49015 on Monday February 2nd, 2026 from 4PM to 8PM. Graveside service will take place at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens 1490 Michigan Ave E, Battle Creek, MI 49014 on February 3rd, 2026 at 2PM.
