Rev. Hershel Davis

June 11, 1929 — August 2, 2021

Battle Creek

Reverend Hershel Leo Davis, age 92, of Battle Creek, Michigan passed from this life on Monday, August 2, 2021, at The Oaks at North Point Care Facility in Battle Creek. Our family would like to thank The Oaks for their wonderful and compassionate care of dad right up to the very end of his life. Hershel was born June 11, 1929, in Florence, Alabama to Wiley and Roxie (Mays) Davis. On April 22, 1950, he married Modean Louise Reaper, who passed away on April 4, 2014. Hershel was truly a man of God. His conversion to Christ was from humble beginnings. His mother raised all of her children in the ways of God, and Hershel enthusiastically accepted the call to preach in about 1950, pastoring many churches in the Southeast Missouri area for the Church of God, (Cleveland, TN). He relocated with his family to Battle Creek, Michigan in 1972 to pastor the Dexter Lake Church of God from 1972-82. He and Modean moved to Searcy, Arkansas in 1983 where he worked for the Searcy Parks and Recreation Dept. and came back to Battle Creek in 1989. He began pastoring the Albion Church of God in the early 1990’s, finally retiring in 2017, at the age of 88. Hershel was a hard worker and passed that conviction on to all his children. He loved being outside working in the yard and with his hands, even when he was pastoring churches, working full time, and raising 9 children, and playing lots of ball! He loved people and won many souls to the Kingdom of God. The qualities and passions Hershel had are too many to list here, but the one thing he was most passionate about was his Lord, Jesus Christ. Only eternity will reveal the great impact Hershel had on the many people he had the privilege of ministering to. He only wanted to see people saved and set on the path to Heaven. Surviving are nine children: Hershel (Kim) Davis, Jr., Pastor Glyn (June) Davis, Pastor Windle (Denice) Davis, Pastor Doug (Caralee) Davis, Dale (Rhonda) Davis, Lyle (Regina) Davis, Cloria (Pastor Mack) Travis, Pastor Travis (Becky) Davis and Pastor Lane (Carol) Davis; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; Hershel was preceded in death by all nine of his siblings: Janie Davis LeFan, Bud Davis, Eula Davis Palmer, Lurene Davis Mashburn, Tessie Davis Smith, Beatrice Davis Gestring, Authur Davis, Herbert Davis and Lucille Davis Hall. He was also preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, Limon Gerald Davis, and a granddaughter, Leanne Davis Clark. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2021, at the Family Altar Chapel, 14844 6 ½ Mile Road, with his sons officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. The public viewing will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. www.henryfuneralhome.org
