Richard Earl Burton Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 16, 2020. He was born on June 1, 1940 in Kalamazoo, MI, the son of Earl and Birdine (Surine) Burton. He attended Lakeview High School until 1959. He worked many jobs as a young man, including Fire Apparatus and Model A & T. He loved racing his stock car around the track in Galesburg where he managed to win a time or two. When he wasn’t racing, he enjoyed watching the cars buzz around the track and rooting on his favorite NASCAR driver. He enjoyed spending time in the garage building things out of wood. He loved fishing and being on the water. He was a big jokester, and rarely did you leave his house without a good laugh. He enjoyed family gatherings and listening to music with family and friends at Niko’s. He was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa and was especially proud of all his grandkids. He is survived by his loving wife Nancy Burton, his son Richard Burton Jr., his daughter Debbie (Tom) Reynolds, stepchildren Terry (Scott) Denny, Tannis Hansen, and Larry Bell Jr., his sisters Carolyn (Frank) Gammon, Paulette Leonard, and Linda Ayers along with 9 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Danny Burton, and two sisters Beverly Hurst and Donna Burton. In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place.
