Richard E. Doubleday, age 93, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away on July 2, 2026.
Richard was born in Pine Creek, Michigan, on November 10, 1933, to Lee and Ethel Doubleday. The youngest of eight children, Richard was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings. He graduated from Athens High School in 1951, proudly served in the Army, and went on to build a 38-year career at Kellogg’s. He took great pride in both his military service and his many years with Kellogg’s.
Richard was a devoted and amazing father who made sacrifices for his family, including working third shift so he could be home when his children returned from school. He was deeply involved in their lives, coaching baseball and softball and sharing his love of snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. After retirement, Richard and Velma loved traveling the country together, but their greatest joy was spending time with their grandchildren. Later in life, Richard enjoyed sitting by the window and watching for “critters,” as he affectionately called the wildlife of Michigan.
Richard will be remembered for his steady devotion to family, his pride in a life of service and hard work, and the many memories he created with those he loved. His family and friends will cherish the time they shared with him and honor the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
Richard is survived by his son, Rick (Karen) Doubleday of Bluffton, South Carolina; his daughter, Brenda (Jeff) Travis of Walker, Michigan; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Velma Doubleday, in 2018; his parents, Lee and Ethel Doubleday; and his siblings.
The family will receive friends 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home, Battle Creek where a service to celebrate Richard’s life will begin at 10:00 a.m. Thursday. Interment with full military honors will follow at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
