Richard James Miller, Jr., “Rick,” age 74, of Battle Creek, passed away on November 21, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 17, 1950, in Battle Creek, the son of Richard and Stephany (Banaszak) Miller, Sr. Rick was a lifelong resident, graduating from Lakeview High School in 1969, then going on to receive his associate’s degree from Kellogg Community College. Rick worked for the Kellogg Company, retiring after over 30 years. He was a member of the Kellogg 25-Year Club and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Rick was an avid sports enthusiast, coaching and playing both basketball and softball. He was labeled, since his youth, as the city’s original “gym rat.” Outside of sports, Rick also enjoyed learning about history and playing trivia, challenging his vast knowledge of the various categories, while also educating his daughters along the way. He enjoyed teaching and helping others whenever possible, truly trying to aid all those he could, always leading by example. Rick enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, making wonderful memories that will be cherished forever. His daughters and grandchildren loved him fiercely, as he loved them. Whether he was teaching them a sport, exploring a new city, or quizzing them on anything and everything, he poured all he had into his daughters, who will forever remember “high and over the rim.” He was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his daughters, Sarah Miller and Carly Miller of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Mary Williams, Roman and Dominic Miller, all of Battle Creek; and sister, Vicki Wiederhold of Battle Creek. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 28, 2025, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services, where the Recitation of The Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 29, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rev. Christopher Ankley, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Richard’s memory to Centrica Care Navigators Hospice.
