Rita Kay Peck, 74, of Battle Creek, Passed away from a lengthy illness on March 17th, 2023 with her son Steven by her side. She was born April 17, 1948 in Bonne Terre, Mo., the daughter of Louis and Marjorie Chaney. Rita graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1966. After graduation she spent some time in England visiting family before returning to the US to work for Ermisch Travel for a short period. She then worked for Paulson’s Automotive before getting married in 1969. Rita then spent several years as a stay at home mom before becoming a proprietor of an Amoco station in Battle Creek. After selling the station she began an engraving business at home which she continued until retirement in 2021. After divorcing in 1993, she loved working part time at Doris Klaussen Developmental Center in the speech therapy program where she made many great friends. Rita was extremely passionate about gardening and digging in the soil. She prided herself for her tomatoes and using heirloom seeds. She has two sons, Steven and Scotty, and often jokes about a third son being her Troybilt rototiller purchased in 1980 that is still used today. She enjoyed mushroom hunting and reading many genres of books. She was passionate about homeopathic remedies and healthy eating. She is survived by her two sons Steven (Shannon) Peck and Scott Peck, grandson Brendan Peck, her sister Dawna (Gary) Smith, and many other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rita is preceded in death by her grandparents Frederick and Winifred Paulson, her Father Louis and mother Marjorie and her brother Brian Chaney. A visitation service will be held March 24th at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek, 703 Capital Ave SW. 4-5pm for family and 5-6:30pm for friends.
