Robert A. Radtke Jr.

Robert August "Bob" Radtke Jr., a devoted family man, tireless entrepreneur, and avid outdoorsman, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the age of 83.

Born in Detroit on April 9, 1942 to Robert August Sr. and Margaret Reid Radtke, Bob became the beloved "cool" big brother to his siblings Karen, Bill, and Susan. He graduated from Madeira High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1960 and continued his education at Ohio University, graduating in 1964.

In 1972, Bob married the love of his life, Carol Lynn Matthews. They spent 43 wonderful years together before her passing in 2016. The couple is survived by their daughter and son-in-law, Stefany and Jim Austin of Battle Creek Michigan, as well as their son and daughter-in-law Rob and Julie Radtke of Carlsbad California. They also leave behind four wonderful and talented grandchildren: Abby, Jack, Samuel and Grady. Bob was also surprised to learn later in life that he had another son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Kimberly Trusty, and he embraced the gift of their new connection with love and gratitude.

An entrepreneur at heart, Bob found his professional calling in the shopping cart and store fixture business. He was a hard worker and an ambitious businessman. If you grew up in Southern Michigan, there’s a good chance you’ve pushed around one of “Bob’s” shopping carts. In 1998, Bob and Carol founded MSI/Bocar in Madison Heights, Michigan, a company they successfully ran together before eventually selling it in 2013.

Outside of his business, Bob was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. He was also extraordinarily dedicated to his stretching and physical fitness routines. Even into his 80’s, Bob could be found swimming bright and early six days a week at the YMCA. He was also a talented bowler and a loyal fan of all Detroit sports, holding Lions season tickets for an impressive fifty-five years.

Bob lived a full and meaningful life, and his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. His humor, kindness, and unwavering spirit will be deeply missed. Details for a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
