Susan Gene Scantlen is the daughter of Gloria Diamond Godfrey and Eugene Godfrey. Susan was married to her loving husband, Rick Scantlen for 49 years. Susan had 4 children, Tim Vaxter, John Vaxter, Kristi Scantlen and Richie Scantlen. She is the niece of Agnes Gallagher. Susan was known as a loving and supportive Nana to her two grandchildren, Destinee Martin and Erica Gipson and her great-grandchildren Alanna and Jamir Ward. Sue graduated from Battle Creek Central in 1964. After she got married in 1974.

Surrounded by her family and friends, Sue passed on January 11th, 2024 at 12:04. Sue will forever be known for her quick-wit, creativity, her infectious laugh and her reliability. Susan was crafter, often crocheting blankets for the children being born in her family. She often did ‘diamond dotting’ and liked gifting her completed projects to people. Sue liked playing bingo with her friends and could sometimes be found singing karaoke. She loved to travel and loved to accompany her husband to the casino. Susan left an impression on everyone she meets and she will be carried in the hearts of those closest to her until they are all reunited again. Sue was preceded in death by her brother, Steven Godfrey (2023), her son Richie Scantlen (1999) and her twin great-grandsons Ja’Shawn and Jer’uan Ward (2020). Sue’s family is holding a celebration of life on January 28th at 1:00 pm at Moonraker in their Banquet Room. They would love for all family and friends to come out to celebrate her life and commemorate all the memories we have with Susan Gene Scantlen.
