Truda May Smith

Truda May Smith (Schram-Roberts), daughter of the late Samuel and Eleanor (Yelle) Roberts, was born on August 20, 1939, in Bay City, Michigan. She left this earth to return to her Heavenly Father on November 3, 2025.

Truda retired from the Battle Creek VA Hospital after 28 years of dedicated service as a unit secretary. She took great pride in her work and cherished the opportunity to help the veterans she met throughout her career. Outside of work, Truda loved spending time with her family and her dogs. She enjoyed listening to music, gardening, watching her church programs, relaxing with Netflix, and playing games on her computer.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Richards; her daughter, Kathy Schram; and her grandchildren Joshua (Tabitha) Byrd, Katrina (Keith) Adams, Christina (Michael) Marion, Secret (Jason) Schram-Boyer, Robert (Stacy) Walton, Amanda Walton, and Hannah Martin. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren Joshua (Victoria) Byrd, Jordan (Lyndsey) Byrd, Bryan Adams, Lesley Stout, Brittanie (Christian) Wampler, Brandon (Phoebe) Adams, Ceara Stout, Asia (Morgan) Marion, Brooklyn (Dauson) Harmon, Michael Marion Jr., Jay Byrd, Ryan Marion, and Kaleen Boyer, as well as 13 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Truda was preceded in death by her sister Julia Edsall; her brothers Samuel J. Roberts Jr. and Bernard Callahan; her sons William “Andy” Schram and Douglas “Chris” Smith; her daughter Roxanne Walton (Schram); her son-in-law Robert Walton; and her daughter-in-law Billie Jean Schram (Lewis).

Truda will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, and her unwavering faith. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched.

At request of family, cremation has taken place. Internment at Hicks Cemetery in Pennfield Township and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor the legacy of Truda.
