Virginia M. Garberick, 91, of Battle Creek passed away Monday April 30, 2012 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born on May 7, 1920 in Ashley, IN to Otis and Marie (Miller) Kempf.
Virginia graduated from Pleasant Lake High School, Pleasant Lake, IN in 1938 and then the International Business School in Fort Wayne, IN. She married Robert Garberick on May 20, 1945 in Angola, IN; they then moved to Battle Creek. Virginia was employed by Steuben County Bank in Angola, IN from 1939 to 1945 and Michigan National Bank in Battle Creek for 25 years retiring in 1984.
Surviving are three children, Nancy (Thomas) Raynes, of Whitmore Lake, MI; Bobbi Garberick, of Oak Hill, VA; and Ronald (Robin) Garberick, of Battle Creek, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and a sister, Dortha (John) Reinhart, of Butler, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, a brother, Rex, and a sister, Phyllis.
Virginia was a member of Sonoma United Methodist Church, Garden Club of Battle Creek, U.C.T. Auxiliary, Pioneer Acres Extension Club, and Burnham Brook Center. She enjoyed sewing, traveling, gardening, craft shows, reading, birds, flowers, and senior bus trips. Virginia especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sports, music, and Boy Scout activities. She volunteered at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility, Food Bank of SW Michigan, ACCORD, Valentine Center, and the Burnham Brook Center.
Family will receive friends from 2pm to 4pm and 6pm to 8pm Friday May 4, 2012 and Saturday from 10am to 11am at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11am Saturday May 5, 2012 at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Nancy G. Powers of Sonoma United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Beckley Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Sonoma United Methodist Church.
