Bill Broderick was known throughout his hometown of Battle Creek for proudly serving his community as a policeman for decades, expertly leading his union and F.O.P for years, competing and coaching in recreation softball and baseball leagues at Bailey Park and traveling the country with his family.
William (Bill) Vincent Broderick Jr., 78, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2025, at his home in Battle Creek, MI. He was born on August 12, 1947, in Pennsylvania to William and Marilynn Broderick. He is survived by his wife Sheryl (Woods); son Bill Broderick; daughter-in-law Melissa Broderick; son Chris Broderick; grandchildren Bailey and husband Tyler, Brady and husband TJ, Britain and Brielle and great granddaughter Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ross Broderick and his sister Sandra Owald. He cherished his extended family and had a special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews as he loved playing the role of Uncle Billy. A 1965 graduate of Lakeview High School, Bill lived his entire adult life in Battle Creek. He retired as a patrol sergeant with the Battle Creek Police Department after working with the city for 25 years. He was an avid outdoorsman - hunting, fishing and camping throughout his life, spending many of his retirement years working in the National Park Service at various places across the country, including the Grand Canyon National Park, Grand Teton National Park and Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore. He will be remembered for being a physical, dedicated and forceful presence in many aspects of life, including at the police department and at the entry gates at Park campgrounds. But he also was known for always being there for anyone who needed him with a friendly smile and an extended, detailed and funny story. One of the final great joys was seeing his great granddaughter being born in the last month of his life and there was no one who worked any harder at being a great husband, father or grandfather. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home and Cremation Services with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. www.henryfuneralhome.org
