Battle Creek

Betty Rose (Morehouse/Osburn) Robins of Glenmore Village in Battle Creek, Michigan passed away surrounded by her family at the Glen Arbor Hospice in Battle Creek on Wednesday, September 21, 2022.

Betty was born in Detroit on February 5, 1928, to Rose and Ray Morehouse. She moved to Battle Creek as an infant, attending Battle Creek Central and graduating from Kellogg Community College with a degree in English Arts. She was employed at the Federal Center in DLA, then moved to a job at Kellogg’s, where she retired.

She was an active member of the Westlake Presbyterian Church, recently transferring to First Presbyterian Church. Beginning at the Lakeview Hospital Auxiliary and Community Hospital, she graduated to volunteering at Bronson Battle Creek Hospital, amassing more than 15,000 hours of service. She also volunteered at the Salvation Army soup kitchen and Emergency Food Pantry, joined the Arboretum Society, Red Hat Society and DAR.

As the first woman inducted into the Battle Creek Host Lions Club, she served as President for two terms, and as Zone and Region III Chairman, supervising several other clubs. She remained active to her death, helping to collect thousands of glasses for donation every year.

Betty was an avid reader and also enjoyed gardening, knitting and travel. She was a season ticket holder for 45 years at the Barn Theater and had recently gone to Toronto to see the Swan Lake ballet.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Lakeview Lion Lloyd G. Robins, and daughter, Janet Osburn. She is survived by a son, David (Beverly) Osburn of Sherwood, a daughter, Elizabeth (Joe) Robins of McKinney, Texas, stepson Raymond (Gail) Robins of Holt, Michigan, ten grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Funeral service scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 24, 2022, at Westlake Presbyterian Church, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Barn Theater or Leader Dogs for the Blind.  Memories and condolences may be left for the family at www.henryfuneralhome.org
