Carl W. Avery, age 88, of Athens, Michigan, passed away on August 31, 2021, at Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. He was born on March 17, 1933, in Athens, MI., the son of Carl H. and Mabel M. (Batterson) Avery. Carl graduated from Athens High School in 1951. He worked with his dad at Carl Avery and Son Marl and Limestone, and as sheet metal worker for the Kellogg Company from May 1951 until his retirement in December 1990. He was a member of United Church of Christ. Carl proudly served in the National Guard. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening, wood working and camping. He was a member of the Coachman Caravan Camping Club and enjoyed working with Habitat for Humanity for several years after his retirement. Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Joann L. Avery and parents. Surviving are his children; Paul C. Avery of Athens, Pamela L. (Robert) Shaver of Rockford, IL., Patrick C. (Amy) Avery of Holland, MI., sister; Janis Edwards of Lusby, MD., niece; Tracey (Dave) Neikirk of Lusby, MD., three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, September 3, 2021, at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Funeral Services are scheduled 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the funeral home, with interment to follow at Burr Oak Cemetery in Athens. Pastor Lynne Meintz officiating. The family is requesting that casual attire be worn of all in attendance. Memorial contributions may be made to Calhoun County Medical Care Facility-Activities Fund.
